Improved access to Education

Rafiki training has become a point of re-entry into the education system for many girls. Before coming to Rafiki, many girls find it difficult to continue with their education since they would have failed their ordinary level exams and do not have money to re-sit for the exams. However, after training a number of girls have managed through their own finances to re-sit for the exams.

Other girls have advanced their careers, from the certificate level attained at RGC to Diploma level in their various courses. They have proceeded on to enrol at state colleges and some managed to enrol at the University of Zimbabwe, Midlands State University, Women’s University, Harare Poly and Bulawayo Poly-Technic, and Nursing schools like Parirenyatwa, Chitungwiza Hospital and work in Hospitals like Harare Hospital and various clinics around the country, which is very commendable. It all began from their enrolment at Rafiki where they have been given a second chance to progress academically. I can confirm today over 1000 young women have been trained and 80% of our girls who trained have had their dreams come true. Many of our trainees are employed here in Zimbabwe and in South Africa as hairdressers, waitresses, nurse aides, preschool teachers, dress makers and interior designers. Rafiki has many success stories of young women who are successful and are now supporting siblings with food, school fees, clothing and who are renting apartments for the family. In addition to vocational training Rafiki provides emotional, psychological and social support
